Online Web Tools Go Social with Wakoopa

Monday, April 27th, 2009

I recently stumbled upon a very interesting site - Wakoopa.com. It’s a social network, but specifically for online web applications. Not only can you talk, share and interact with other Wakoopa users about your fave applications, the site also offers a desktop tracker that measures how often you use different applications and programs, from online project management tools to Photoshop to Yahoo! Messenger. So if you ever wanted to know just how much you use Facebook versus Myspace, this site is for you. Who knows?  You may be able to use the data to increase productivity.

The site ALSO reccommends apps it thinks you will like, and of course, let’s you search through the database and discover new ones. The social network part comes in with updates on who’s using what, which apps are most popular, and the ability to create a widget that shows your favorites. Intrigued? It’s actually quite interesting, and with all the new web apps constantly cropping up, it’s time we started using them social network style.

Project Management - For Xbox?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Not quite. But there is an online game that you can play that parallels the full video gamer experience. It’s called Sharkworld and it is a virtual project management world where you have to take on a project, chat up the boss and avoid major project management pitfalls. This really takes online project management tools to the next level.

From the site:

“Sharkworld allows aspiring project managers to experiment and gain experience with key aspects of project management in a highly entertaining and motivating setting.

This online game creates a convincing virtual environment in which a project is developed in real time, urging the management trainee to interfere when things go wrong, or preferably, before they do.

Several suspense scenarios increase the entertainment value of the game. The game covers not only economic aspects, but also social aspects, conflict management and diplomatic skills. Interaction takes place in real life, by real life means.

The game interacts with the player in many different ways: through websites - both fictional and real, cutscenes, email, newspaper articles, chat, sms and written letters.”

This could be a good exercise for an aspiring project manager or a friendly test for the PM expert. Think you’re up to the challenge? Play the game.

Using the Timesheet

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

We recently received a request for information on how to use the SantexQ timesheets. And so, we’re coming to the rescue! Here is a walk-through on how to get started with the timesheets on our handy dandy online project management tool,  as well as a few nifty tips on how to effectively use them on a daily basis. Don’t worry, it’s not hard!

  • To add time to a task, find that task either on your dashboard or on the Tasks tab. Once you get to that task’s info page, click “Add time to this task”. Fill in the pop-up form with the amount of time you spent and a short description of your work.
  • Continue to add time anywhere that’s needed.
  • To see a breakdown of all the time you have entered, click on the Timesheets tab. On this tab, you will see a list of all the tasks for which you have logged time, along with the number of hours you have logged for each day.
  • It is possible to add time to tasks from the Timesheet tab. Simply click on the correct box for the day and task to which you’d like to add time. The same “Add time to this task” form will pop up. Fill in your information as you normally would and presto, your time has been added! If you want to add time to a task not already on the list, simply click on the Add a New Entry link in the bottom right corner.
  • (Click for bigger view!)

  • If you would like to export or print a report of the hours logged as shown on the Timesheet, simply click “Print Report” on the bottom right-hand of the screen.

That’s it! Easy and breezy! We hope this post has answered at least a few of your burning questions. If you still need additional help or have any questions about The Q, feel free to send our Support team a message.

Happy Q’ing! :)

Online Project Management Tools on Squidoo

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Have you heard of Squidoo? It’s a great resource for info on…well, almost anything. And if you happen to know something about anything you can publish your expertise with the click of a few buttons. Squidoo is a place to create your own page, or “lens” and broadcast to the world what you know.

Click here to see SantexQ’s lens for an example and to learn more about online project management tools.

The lenses are fun to create with Squidoo’s cool lens creator and nifty modules. Add everything from YouTube videos to vote-able Amazon lists. It’s an adventure really. Web 2.0 never ceases to amaze me.

Last Minute Holiday Gifts for 2008

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Christmas is in three days. Are you done with your shopping? If you’re tight on money or if you need a few quick gifts to give out, here are some choice ideas!

A festive picture frame - Or better yet, a holiday ornament that doubles as a frame. Put a picture of you and/or your family in the frames and give them to aunts,  uncles and grandparents or any relatives you don’t see to often.  It’s an inexpensive but, thoughtful and heart-warming gift.

Mini stockings - fill mini stockings with gift cards, candy or any other small trinkets for the younger kids. They’ll like the fun-sized stocking and kids always enjoy discovering each little gift.

Special Interest Book - take a trip to the bookstore and find books on subjects that interest your recipients. Know someone who wants to learn how to play the guitar? Buy a book on the basics. Know someone who loves to cook? Buy a cool cook book. Alternatively, you could purchase a magazine subscription to their favorite magazine as a gift.

Food - Some really yummy cookies or other holiday treats are always welcome around the holidays. Wrap it up with some pretty paper or a decorative bag and make the gift look inviting. Remember to make sure the food is fresh!

A Family Board Game - fun family games like Catch Phrase, Life or Jenga are great gifts that promote togetherness. There are so many to choose from so you’re bound to find one that fits the bill. If you’re going to a family Christmas party you could break out the game and have a great time playing!

Warm and Cuddly Accessories - It’s winter time so anyone can appreciate a warm scarf, mittens or a warm hat. Get a matching set and you can’t go wrong. If you do get it wrong, remember to pack the gift receipt ;)

Need to get organized with your holiday to-do list? Looking for free stuff? Try the SantexQ Online Project Management Tool. It’s free to use! Sign up and take a look around, you’ll like what you see.
